Common questions
What can I practise with Orator?
Use speaking drills to work on pace, pauses, filler words and articulation, or practise an impromptu speech with Table Topics. You can add your own scripts, practise vocabulary and review your progress and recent recordings.
Why can’t Orator hear me?
Allow microphone and speech-recognition access for Orator in iOS Settings. If you previously denied either permission, enable it there and try the activity again. Check that your microphone or connected headset works and that another app or phone call is not using it.
What does “on-device speech recognition isn’t available” mean?
Speaking activities require Apple’s on-device recognition support for the language on your iPhone. If that support is unavailable, Orator stops recognition and shows an error; it does not send your recording to a cloud recognizer. You can still use typed vocabulary answers. Include the error message and your iOS version when contacting support.
Does Orator upload my voice or use an online AI coach?
The current app processes your speech on your iPhone and keeps your recordings, transcripts and progress locally. It does not send your voice to LND apps or ElevenLabs. Coach demonstrations are audio clips bundled with the app, with on-device speech synthesis available as a fallback.
Why can I no longer replay an older attempt?
Orator keeps a limited number of recent recordings for each activity. Older audio is removed as new recordings are saved, so an older history entry may remain even when its replay audio is no longer available.
How do I reset or remove my data?
Settings → Reset everything clears your profile, progress, saved scripts and practice histories and returns you to onboarding. This reset does not erase all stored audio files or preferences. To remove the app’s local data, choose Delete App in iOS Settings, rather than Offload App. Device backups you control may retain a copy.
How do I turn off practice reminders?
Turn off the practice reminder in Orator Settings, or disable Orator notifications in iOS Settings. Reminders are scheduled locally on your iPhone.
